Fifty Shades of Grey (US) Movie Review: You Might Hate It, But Can't Ignore It

As I said, 'You might hate it, but you can't ignore the movie'. Thanks to the rise of expectations that we always feel it is not enough! Fifty Shades of Grey is a Valentine's Day treat for all the lovebirds. The film adaptation of E.L. James' bestselling 'soft-porn' novel became a sensation worldwide.
Thus, the movie not just has sex, but also romance which will bring you in the perfect mood. Now it is time to get over the Cinderella from pages to seeing an on-screen real Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.

As Christian Grey is"50 shades of ‘f**ed up'", the movie can make you feel the same as we all readers rather fans of Fifty Shades have high expectations from the adaptation. Filmed in grey, rainy Seattle and Portland,

the movie starring Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) as the naive college student who is introduced to the world of sex and BDSM by a shady and intimidating CEO, Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) is a nice watch which will surely keep you hooked to the screen.

The movie starts with the interview where Anastasia who hates taking interviews is forced to make up for her sick roommate, Kate (Eloise Mumford), and goes to Grey Enterprises. Ana meets the young and extremely handsome billionaire, Christian Grey whom she interviews for her college magazine, and ends up appearing stupid in front of him where she even asks him "Are you gay?".

Although it was a funny introduction of Ana where she trips while entering his large cabin, we couldn't keep our eyes off the intimidating Mr. Grey, just like Anastasia. Ana starts thinking about Christian after the first encounter. They meet again and go for coffee. Slowly, Ana and Christian Grey starts getting closer and then suddenly, he tells her, "Steer clear of me", which shatters Ana and her dreams.

However, they meet again after she enjoys her end of college exams with Kate and her close friend and classmate, Jose (Victor Rasuk) where she calls Christian in a drunken state and he comes to take her,

rather rescue her from Jose's kiss attempt. Now the game starts when she gets up in the morning with a hangover where her inner goddess starts playing games while her consciousness tells her to steer clear from this 'f**ked up man'. However, they get close and start their oh-so-hot romance.

The romance starts when Christian Grey explains his 'singular taste' and his fetish for bondage, he doesn't let her touch him and plays singular. Opens the Red Room of Pain where the deflowered Anastasia is introduced to the world of Christian Grey's fetish.

The film takes a romantic turn where Christian Grey does his many 'firsts' with Anastasia and he breaks his Dom rule as she doesn't become a submissive even. Things start going bad when she starts expecting 'more' from Christian Grey who doesn't do romance, hearts and flowers. However, it is nice to see Grey attempt to give 'more', calls her his 'girlfriend', introduces her to his mom, Grace Grey (Marcia Gay Harden) and takes her to family dinner as well!

Overall, the movie has been beautifully shown, giving justice to the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Interestingly, Jamie Dornan is breathtaking as the handsome Christian Grey on the big screen than the brooding Grey who is dark and depressing at times in the book. He is handsome, stylish, robust, caring and yes, 'control freak' in the movie. Who says Jamie was not the right choice to play Christian Grey when he was finalised for the role?

Dakota Johnson is not that impressive and needs to work on her acting skills a little. Her expressions, especially her fake biting lips was a big turn off!

Director, Sam Taylor-Johnson and author E.L. James have worked really hard to keep up the book contents in the movie.
