Mahashivratri Spl: Top 10 Tamil Actors In 'God' Avatars!

Not very long ago, Tamil cinema was producing lots of devotional movies. Movies that were powerful enough to make the audience literally pray in front of the big screen. Such were the performances by the actors and their magnitude screen presence as Gods.
Then there was this period where computer graphics took over the natural charm a devotional movie would otherwise have. Sure, graphics is a part of such movies but overdoing it gradually reduced the attractiveness and soon people lost interest in devotional films. Though these kind

of movies are still being made in Kollywood, it is not long before filmmakers might actually stop dishing out such movies considering the fact that the way movie lovers look at a film has changed over the years. 

That's why it becomes an important responsibility for us to preserve and cherish those movies and what else could be a better day other than Maha Shivaratri to do exactly that? Having said that it 

is also equally important to cast one's mind back to the actors and actresses who have portrayed the roles of different Gods and Goddesses with ease and elegance. On this auspicious day of Maha Shivaratri, 

we bring to you famous actors and actresses of Tamil cinema who have donned the roles of various Gods and Goddesses.

Sivaji Ganesan The first actor that would strike anyone while recollecting about stars who have portrayed the role of Gods would be the legendary Sivaji Ganesan. His movie Thiruvilaiyadal  is watched even today with utmost interest by many movie lovers.

Sivakumar Sivakumar has done many devotional movies, but the first such movie that will fill up anyone's mind while talking about this versatile actor is Kandan Karunai. Starring Sivaji Ganesan, KR Vijaya and Jayalalitha, Sivakumar will be seen as Lord Murugan in this film.

Savitri Many actresses too have played Goddesses in the past in Tamil cinema and the most prominent among them is Savitri. Savitri too have done many such roles but the most famous of them all is once again from the film Thiruvilaiyadal  which saw her play Goddess Parvati.

Rajinikanth Sri Raghavendrar  was Superstar Rajinikanth's 100th film and he dedicated this movie to the Almighty close to his heart, Sri Raghavendra Swami, which makes this film even more special. He also played Mahavatar Babaji(not shown in the movie) in Baba.

K. R. Vijaya KR Vijaya is another actress who has been portrayed as Goddess in many movies. Her ability to pull off such roles is praised even today.

Ramya Krishnan Ramya Krishnan, not so long ago, ruled Kollywood when it comes to devotional movies. Like KR Vijaya, she has been shown as a Goddess in many movies. Her movie Amman is one of her best work till date.

Prakash Raj In the film Arai En 305-il Kadavul, Prakash Raj plays God. A particular scene in the film emphasizes that God is and has always been a single entity with various forms. The film has Santhanam and is directed by Chimbu Deven.

Meena Though Meena has embraced the role of a Goddess in a couple of movies, her role in Palayathu Amman gave her many accolades. The movie was a blockbuster hit and reminded filmmakers about devotional movies and their importance.

Roja Roja proved to everyone that even she could pull off such roles and has acted as Goddess in many movies including Tamil and Telugu.

Gemini Ganesan Last but not least we have yet another actor portraying the role of Lord Shiva. Gemini Ganesan's role as The Almighty in Kandan Karunai  was as good as it can get.
