Birthday Special: Suriya's Top Performances Till Date!

It is Suriya's birthday today (23rd July) and it is only fair to know more about the actor and some of his best movies on this special occasion. Born as Saravanan Sivakumar, the talented actor had to embrace his stage name as director Mani Ratnam, who
produced his first movie Nerrukku Ner, felt that the name Saravanan would lead to confusion as there was already an established Tamil actor by the same name. Not wanting to end up as an actor,

Suriya worked at a textile factory for over 6 months without revealing his identity as the son of a well-known actor. But since his star father Sivakumar was under a financial crunch at that time, Suriya was left with no other option

but to star in his first movie which promised to bail his family out of trouble. Since then Suriya has grown from strength to strength in the Tamil film industry and today he is one of the most prominent

and talented actors of Kollywood. Over the years, he has worked with maverick directors to fabricate some amazing movies. Today, on his 40th birthday, let us take some time out to look back at his illustrious career.

Perazhagan Directed by Sasi Shanker, Perazhagan is easily one of Suriya's best. Portraying two different characters; hunchback and a boxer, Suriya had proved his acting skills and dedication through this flick.

Nandha Nandha can be considered as Suriya's turning point in his career. Directed by Bala, Suriya for the first time, had been showcased as a roughie and he had pulled it off with sheer brilliance.

Ghajini Directed by AR Murugadoss, Ghajini  won him the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards under the category Special Award for Best Actor. His performance was appreciated by Aamir Khan who went on to remake the flick in Hindi.

Kaakha Kaakha In this film Suriya had portrayed the role of a police officer to perfection. It was directed by Gautham Menon and the film presented Suriya with an ITFA Award under the category Best Actor.

Pithamagan Once again directed by Bala, Pithamagan had Suriya and Vikram in pivotal roles. Even though Vikram's performance had shadowed Suriya's, the actor managed to attract critical acclaims and also won the Filmfare Award under the category Best Supporting Actor.

Vaaranam Aayiram Though Suriya played just a dual role in this film, he was portrayed as a school goer, a college student, a young father, an old man suffering from throat cancer, a drug addict, an military man and much more all in a single film. Needless to say, he had portrayed all of that to perfection.
