Happy Eid al-Fitr: 6 Tamil Movies Based On Interreligious Romance

It's the auspicious day of Eid and it's time to celebrate it FilmiBeat style. As a part of the celebrations, we have come up with 6 Tamil films in which interreligious romance between Hindu and a Muslim has been highlighted.
These movies go on to show that love has no barriers whatsoever, let alone religious constraints. Love stories featuring a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl or vice versa have always fascinated Tamil filmmakers over

the years and I doubt it will be any different in years to come. While some of the movies have worked at the box office, a few have gone unnoticed, nevertheless, the efforts put in by filmmakers to highlight the

importance of interfaith romances or marriages has to be appreciated. Before we get to know about such movies, let us first feed ourselves with some useful information regarding this auspicious day

which is celebrated as a festival by Muslims. Eid al-Fitr or simply Eid celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of fasting (dawn to dusk)

which is followed during the entire month of Ramadan. The day of Eid, therefore, falls on the first day of the month of Shawwal.

Bombay This Mani Ratnam directorial would probably be the first film to strike any Tamil movie buffs mind while thinking about interfaith romance.

The story revolves around a Hindu boy who falls in love with a Muslim girl. In spite of many oppositions they get married and begin their life in Mumbai, then Bombay.

Pokkisham Initially set in the 70s, this film directed by Cheran is about a romantic relationship between a marine engineer (played by Cheran) and a Nagore girl named Nadira (played by Padmapriya).
