Will Movies Like Baahubali And Puli Open New Floodgates In Tamil Cinema?

Movies like Baahubali and Puli  might open new floodgates, resulting more films from a genre of cinema that once ruled Tamil film industry but has been largely forgotten in today's mad rush of over commercialized films.
The genre I Am talking about is 'Historical'. Earlier, Tamil cinema was defined by historical films and such was the impact those gem of movies had on its audience. As years passed by, the style of filmmaking changed

and with that something as grand as historical movies were taken out of the equation, making it hard for such films to make a comeback. But slowly, in the last few years, such movies have found its own place on

the big screen and not surprisingly, audience's response too have been overwhelming. But one major hurdle filmmakers face today while trying to recreate the magic of historical movies is the challenge of recreating

everything from costumes to edifices and the hostility involved in gathering lost and forgotten information. But thanks to directors like Chimbu Deven and Rajamouli, South Indian cinema may

witness more number of historical films in the future. Also with the kind of producers Tamil cinema is blessed with today, the responsibility of making these kind of movies should now be embraced by our directors.

Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikesi Chimbu Deven has a flair for historical films it can be said. Though this movie was meant to be a comedy flick, the sets erected and the information gathered to present a complete metaphorical movie is praiseworthy. His upcoming film Puli  will have its own piece of history

Hey Ram This Kamal Haasan starrer narrates the story of a Brahmin who gives up everything in order to prepare himself to assassinate the Mahatma. From the way it was picturized to the movie's overall feel, history was written all over it.

Madrasapattinam Directed by AL Vijay, Madrasapattinam is a love story with a historical touch. It revolves around a British girl who falls in love with an Indian in the pre-independence era.
