Quoting Mammootty "Body and voice are the most effective tools for an actor. Without taking care of these two factors, no one can survive in the industry". But sadly, most of the actresses and some of the actors survive
with the help of dubbing artists, in our industry. Knowingly or unknowingly, Mollywood is fine with the actresses seeking the help of a voice actor. But for the actors, it is not easy to survive without using their own voices.
Popular actors Shankar Panicker and Rahman are the best examples for the actors who use dubbing voices. Shankar's voice was considered not-so-appealing; while Rahman lacked fluency in Malayalam,
during their peak times. It was dubbing artist Krishnachandran who dubbed for the actors in most of their films. In the younger generation, some actors including Unni Mukundan and Narain had took the help of dubbing artists at the
beginning of their careers but later opted to use their own voices. But at the same time, there are some actors who not only uses their voices for their roles; but also turned voice actors for their contemporaries.
Thilakan Veteran actor Thilakan had lent voice for some of his contemporaries. He has lent voice for popular singer-actor S P Balasubramaniam, in the popular 3D film Magic Magic and for some other popular other language actors in various films.
KPAC Lalitha KPAC Lalitha has dubbed for some popular heroines, including the National Award winner Sharada, for some famous movies including Aabhijathyam and Theerthayathra, for Nanditha Bose in Panitheeraatha Veedu, for Surekha in Thakara etc.
Revathi Revathi, the talented-director actress turned voice actor for some popular actresses including Bollywood actresses Sridevi in Devaragam, Pooja Batra in Megham, Kushboo in Chandrolsavam, Kajol in Tamil movie Minsarakanavu, Tabu in Kandukondein Kandukondein and Kushboo in Chandrolsavam.
