Prakash Raj, as we all know is a multitalented artiste who is well-versed in acting, directing and producing. Also known for his versatility, the National Award winning actor celebrates his birthday today.  South. He was introduced in Tamil by late K Balachander and has not looked back ever since. He has so far worked in all four South Indian Film Industries and has also made his mark in Hindi cinema.

Kanchivaram Prakash Raj was honoured with the National Film Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of a silk weaver in this film. Directed by Priyadarshan, Prakash Raj's performance in Kanchivaram is certainly one of his best till date.

Iruvar Directed by Mani Ratnam, Iruvar gave the veteran actor his first National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. His role in this film was loosely based on politician/writer M Karunanidhi.

Appu Prakash proved his versatility by playing a transgender with negative shades in this Prashanth starrer. Directed by Vasanth, this film elevated Prakash's star status.

Kalki This Balachander directorial gave Prakash Raj Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Villain. His portrayal of a sadistic husband who then is tortured by his girlfriend is praised even today.

Aasai Aasai  was once again directed by Vasanth and portrayed Prakash as a lustful villain. Once again his acting skills and nuances were displayed convincingly in this Ajith starrer.

Ghilli This film turned Prakash from a terrifying villain to a lovable baddie. His dialogue 'chellam' became a huge hit and also won the National award for best dialogue. It was directed by Dharani and had Vijay in the lead.

Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu Directed by Gautham Menon, starring Kamal Haasan in the lead, Prakash Raj's performance in this movie was as powerful as it can get. Though he appears only for a brief period of time, he would've exhibited his acting skill to the fullest.

Abhiyum Naanum This film gave him the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Character Artiste. As the award suggests, Prakash had adapted himself to play character roles by now and this was certainly one of his best. It was directed by Radha Mohan.

Santosh Subramaniam Once again proving to be a perfect character artiste, his portrayal of a caring father won many hearts. He had also played the same role in Telugu. The Tamil version was directed by M Raja.

Anniyan Once again winning the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Villain for Anniyan, he had already proven himself as a fantastic actor. Anniyan was directed by Shankar which had Prakash portraying the role of a cop.
