Shamitabh movie starring Dhanush and Amitabh Bachchan was one of the most anticipated movie this year,
owing to which we expected the movie to get at least 40% occupancy on the opening day. Unfortunately things did not follow
through and Shamitabh opened to just 30% occupancy due to which the opening day collections also fell through and resulted in an income of just Rs 3.5 crores, an amount that usually a low budget, newcomer's movie gets.
Shamitabh with it's star cast should have easily got Rs 13-14 crores to have an average opening at Box Office. It's low income of just Rs 3.5 crores indicate the movie may flop. On Saturday,
when the collections usually sore owing to it be a weekend, the movie just grossed over Rs 4.75 crores which is very less. On Sunday too the film did not see much increase in the number of viewership in the theatres.
According to trade experts, Tamil star Ajith's, Yennai Arindhaal's release is the reason for such a low response to Shamitabh in theatres. Anyways it has over a weeks' time to pick up the collections. The movie has grossed Rs 5 crores on Sunday bringing the total first weekend collection to just a meager Rs 13.25 crores at the domestic market.
