Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was just 21 year old when she made India proud by becoming the second Indian Miss World in the year 1994 after Reita Faria (1966). at the Miss World pageant in the year 1994. In Janaury 1994, Sushmita Sen won the coveted title of Miss India 1994 and Aishwarya Rai was crowned Miss India 1994 first runner-up. Sushmita Sen had once revealed in an

interview that many girls took their Miss India forms back when they came to know that Aishwarya is participating in that year's contest. As they all thought Aishwarya will surely win the Miss India crown because of her looks.

To which, Aishwarya replied, ''The Miss World's that we have had till date, have been proof enough that they have had compassion, compassion for the under privileged, not only for the people for who have status and stature, 

who can look beyond the barriers that man has set up for ourselves of nationality, colour. We have to look beyond that and that will make a true Miss World, a true person, a real person. Thank you! 

In 2014, Aishwarya Rai was honoured as the most successful Miss World ever during the finale night of Miss World in December, where she was invited as the chief guest.
